    The District is situated with in the Geographical Co-ordination of 13o43 and 15o14 of Northern latitude and 77o55 and 79o29 of the Earthen longitude. The entire District lies in Pennar river Basin with 118.89 Lakhs Acres of Area covered. The Major amount of rain falls due to South-West Monsoon. The District is classified as drought Prone area due to Scanty and erratic rain fall. The normal rainfall is 700 mm. The Statistical data of the district Cuddapah is as follows

    II. ONGOING PROJECTS:

    A. Major Projects

    1. TELUGU GANGA PROJECT:

     The T.G.P. now under construction is a diversion scheme from foreshore of N.S.R. Sagar project and is intended to supply 15 TMC of Krishna water to Chennai city for drinking purpose besides creating irrigation Potential of 5,75,000 acres (1.08 Lakhs acres in Kurnool Dist., 1.67 Lakhs acres in Kadapa District utilizing 29 TMC of Krishna Water through Velugodu Balancing Reservoir and S.P.V.B. Reservoir respectively and 0.46 Lakhs acres in Chittoor District and 2.54 Lakh Acres in Nellore District utilizing 30 TMCC of Pennar water through Kandaleru Reservoir). The Telugu Ganga Project Main canal from Km.98.260 to S.P.V.B. Reservoir intended to impound Subsidiary Reservoir-I, Subsidiary Reservoir-II and S.P.V.B. Reservoir and the canal from Subsidiary Reservoir-I to Pennar river intended to drinking water supply is situated falls in the Kadapa District.

    The S.P.V.B. Reservoir with a storage capacity of 17 TMC is located near B.Mattam village in B.Mattam Mandal of Kadapa District and is envisaged to irrigate a total ayacut of 1,50,000 Acres in the Kadapa District and it is envisaged to generate 15 MW of Power at Subsidiary Reservoir-I while letting water into Chennamukkapalli canal which is intended to supply drinking water to Chennai city, besides irrigating an ayacut of 17,000 Acres in Duvvur, Mydukur and Khajipet Mandals.

    The estimated cost of the total project is Rs.637 Crores (S.S.R. of 1983-84 year) and the revised cost is Rs.2735 Crores (SSR of 1997-98 year) as per the Project report 1998 the cost of the project works in the District is Rs.615.30 Crores. As on 31st January, 2004, total amount of Rs.304 Crores has been spent since inception on the project works in Kadapa District and an Irrigation Potential of 10,000 acres has been kept ready. The project is programmed to be completed by 2009-2010 subject to the availability of funds.

     The total land to be acquired is 16004.75 acres and so far_______ acres is already acquired and the balanced is programmed tobe acquired according execution schedule.

    An amount of Rs.29.00 Crores is provided for works for the year 2003-04 to provide Irrigation potential to 15,000 acres and Irrigation potential kept ready for 10,000 acres.

    SCOPE:

     Telugu Ganga Project is an inter-state project formulated to Irrigate 5.75 Lakh acres in drought prone areas of Rayalaseema and up lands of Nellore District besides conveying 15 TMC of Krishna waters to Chennai city. The cost of the Project as per original project Report was Rs.637 Crores. The cost per the latest Review Report with 1997-98 SSRs is Rs.2735 Crores. The project is cleared from Environmental and Forest angle.

    HYDROLOGY:

    The flood flows of river Krishna are proposed tobe diverted to S.P.V.B. Reservoir (17 TMC capacity) for Irrigation in Sagileru basin. Two subsidiary reservoirs viz., S.R-I (2.133 TMC) and S.R-II (2.444 TMC) are also proposed on T.G.P. Main canal. The self catchment of these reservoirs is very little and negligible. Water will be received from N.S.R. Project and stored in the reservoirs.

    DESCRIPTION:

    The scheme consists of 408 Km. long canal from N.S.R. Project to Andhra Pradesh-Tamil Nadu border with the following four balancing reservoirs.

    1. Velugodu Balancing Reservoir.
    2. S.P.V.B. Reservoir.
    3. Somasila Reservoirs.
    4. Kandaleru Reservoir.

    The ayacut proposed to be developed under this Project is as follows:

    1. Kurnool District 1.08 Lakh acres under V.B.R.
    2. Cuddapah District 1.67 Lakih acres under V.B.R. & S.P.V.B.R.
    3. Chittoor District 0.46 Lakh acres under Kandaleru Reservoir
    4. Nellore District 2.54 Lakh acres under Kandaleru Reservoir.

    The following component works of Telugu Ganga Project falls in the Cuddapah District:

    1.T.G.P. Main canala from Km.98.26 (Kurnool-Cuddapah District Border) to Km.140.720 (S.P.V.B. Reservoir).

    2.Formation of S.P.V.B.Reservoir near B.Mattam village.

    3.Chennamukkapalli canal from Subsidiary Reservoir-I to Pennar River to facilitate conveyance of 15 TMC of drinking water up to Pennar river to join Somasila reservoir.

    Branch canals and distributory system under S.P.V.B. Reservoir.

    STAGE OF WORKS:

    1)T.G.P. Maian canal from Km.98.260 to S.R-I:

    The entire canal in the stretch is excavated and lined.

    2)Subsidiary Reservoir-I:

    Subsidiary Reservoir-I comprises Bund A&B. The works of Bunds are completed including construction of Head Regulator.

    3)Link Canal between S.R-I & S.R.-II:

    The length of Link Canal between S.R-I & S.R-II is 2.452 Km out of which the canal is excavated for entire stretch except at Surplus escape portion. Excavation of canal in the balance stretch is also taken up. Construction of Surplus weir at Km.0.415 and Regulator at Km.0.600 is under progress.

    4)Subsidiary Reservoir-II:

    Subsidiary Reservoir-II comprises Bunds-C & D. The works of Bund-C are completed and the works related to Bund-D are also completed except in the stream portion for 40m length. The balance works including protection works for Bund-D and construction of a Regulator and a Surplus weir are also under progress.

    5)T.G.P.Main canal from S.R-II to S.P.V.B. Reservoir:

     The canal in this stretch is made through. Structures at Km.120.675 & Km.120.925 are under construction. Lining works are under progress is vulnerable reaches.

    6)Formation of S.P.V.B. Reservoir:

    Earth Dam in all four segments was completed. Civil works of Head sluices were also completed. Protection works in Lower gorge portion from ch.0.000 to ch.400m, erection of gates for Left side & Right side Head Sluices and construction of Surplus weir are the balance works to be taken up.

    7)Chennamukkapalli canal from S.R-I to Pennar River:

     Chennamukkapalli canal from S.R-I to Km.24.925 (Vakkileru) is excavated and lined. Works from Km.29.30 to Km.30.823 and from Km.31.577 to Km.37.65 where there is no land acquisition problem have also been taken up and completed.

    8)Irrigation canals under C.M.P. Canal under S.R-I:

     It is contemplated to create an irrigation potential for 15,000 acres in Cuddapah District under Channamukkapalli canal through Blocks 40(A), 40(B), 42, 45 & 47 . The works are in progress.

    9)Irrigation canals under S.P.V.B. Reservois:

    Out of the total length of 152 Km of B. Sagar canals works were completed for a total length of 40 Kms

    FINANCIAL OUTLAY:

    An amount of Rs.287.97 Crores has been spent on T.G.P. works in Cuddapah District since inception to the end of 1/04. An amount of Rs.29.00 Crores is allocated for the year 2003-04.

    V. PROGRAMME OF WORKS FOR THE YEAR 2003-04:

    1. It is proposed to create Irrigation potential for 15,000 acres under Chennamukkapalali canal during this year duly completing works related to Blocks 40(A), 40(B), 42 and 47. The remaining works between Km.113.519 and Km.140.720 of T.G.P. Main canalare programmed tobe tackled this year and it is proposed to impound water in S.P.V.B.R. during the next year by completing all works on T.G.P. main canal by 2004-05 including errection of gates for the Head Sluices of S.P.V.B.R. to facilitate creation of Irrigation Potential under B.Sagar canals from 2005 onwards.

    2. GALERI NAGARI SUJALA SRAVANTHI:

    The Proposal envisages drawl of 38 TMC flood waters of Krishna river from the foreshore of Srisailam reservoir through the existing SRMC and SRBC system up to Gorakallu reservoir by suitably increasing their capacities and there after through an independent G.N. flood flow canal up to Gandikota reservoir proposed for 26.847 TMC after crossing Owk reservoir. Thereafter the G.N. Main canal takes off from the foreshore of Gandikota reservoir for a length of 233.021 KM filling enroute two reservoir (viz) Vamikonda Sagar and Sarvaraja Sagar through off-take points in Cuddapah District before benching off near Kodur town in to two limbs (viz) Balaji canal and Kailasagiri canal of lengths of 60 KM and 115 KM respectively and finally drops in to Nagari river basin.

    Tentative cost of the Project is about Rs.4567.00 Crores as S.S.Rates of 2002-03.

    The Proposal envisages drawl of 38 TMC flood waters of Krishna

    An amount of Rs.2.50 Crores is allocated in the budget for G.N.S.S. Project during the financial year 2003-04 out of which the amount of Rs.1.25 crores earmarked for Land Acquisition was released to the Land Acquisition authorities. The cumulative expenditure incurred up to the end of 1/2003 in Rs.22.78 Crores i.e., Rs.5.01 Crores on works and Rs.17.77 Crores on Establishment.

    B.Medium Irrigation Projects:

    1.VELIGALLU PROJECT:      The Veligallu Project is under construction across the Papagni river, which is a tributary to the Pennar river. The Project utilizes 2.671 TMC of the available water and the reservoir storage capacity is 4.650 TMC (gross) and 3.360 TMC (net).

     The Project is located near the Veligallu village, Galiveedu Mandal, Cuddapah District and is envisaged to Irrigate/stabilize a total ayacut of 24000 acres in the District of Cuddapah generates of power / provides drinking water to 18 villages in the Galiveedu, Lakkireddipalli, Ramapuram Mandals and Cuddapah District.

    The estimated cost of the Project is Rs.141.42 crores (SSR of 2003-04 year).

     As on January month of 2004 year total amount of Rs.5.458 Crores has been spent since inception. The project is programmed to be completed by 2007 year.

     An amount of Rs.10.00 Crores is provided for the year 2003-04.

    2. BUGGAVANKA PROJECT:     The Buggavanka Project was constructed across the Buggavanka river, which is a tributary to the Penna river. The Project is locarted near the Ippapenta village, C.K. Dinne Mandal, Kadapa District to irrigarte a total ayacut of 9700 acres in the Districts of Kadapa.

The Project utilizes 0.506 TMC of the available water and the Reservoir storage capacity is 0.506 TMC (gross) and 0.454 TMC (net).

The cost of the Project is Rs.38 Crores (SSR of 2000-2001) and the updated cost including improvements and modernization is Rs.39 Crores (SSR of 2002-2003).

During the year 2001 there were damages to the Dam/canal/Distributories/Gartes due to heavy rains/unprecedented floods/operational problems and the rectification works have been taken up at an estimated cost of Rs.1.00 Crores and is programmed to complete by 3/2005.

An amount of Rs.0.25 Crores is provided for the year 2003-04 to towards modernization and / or rehabilitation.


    3.ANNAMAYYA PROJECT:     The Annamayya Project was constructed across the Cheyyeru river which is a tributary to the Pennar river. The project is located near the Badanagadda village, Rajampet Mandal, Kadapa District to irrigate a total ayacut of 22,500 acres in the District of Kadapa (22,500 Acres).

The Project utilizes 2.17469 TMC of the available water and the reservoir storage capacity is 2.33948 TMC (Gross) and 2.23948 TMC (Net).

The cost of the Project is Rs.60.44 Crores (SSR of 1996-97) and the updated cost including improvements and modernization is Rs.68.92 Crores (SSR of 2001-02 year).

As on January month of 2004 year a total amount of Rs.57.347 Crores has been spent towards modernization and rehabilitation and an ayacut of 22,500 acres has been stabilized in the Rajampet and Pullamapet Mandals of Kadapa District.

During the year 2003 there were damages to the gates due to heavy rains and the rectification have to be taken up at an estimated cost of Rs.1.20 crores and is programmed to complete by 6th month of 2004 year.

An amount of Rs.3.00 Crores is provided for the year 2003-04 towards modernization/or habilitation.


    4.PINCHA PROJECT:     The Pincha Project was constructed across the Pincha River which is tributary to Penna River. The Project is located near the Mudumpadu village, T.Sundupalli Mandal, Cuddapah District to irrigate a total ayacut of 3773.41 acres.

The Project utilized 0.765 TMC of the available water and the Reservoir storage capacity is 0.3276 TMC (gross) and 0.3222 TMC (Net).

The cost of the Project is Rs.0.60 Crores 9SSR or 1954 year).

As on March, 2003 a total amount of Rs.0.172 Crores have been spent towards rehabilitation.

During the year 10/2001 there were damages to the canal due to heavy unprecedented floods and the rectification works have been taken up at an estimated cost of Rs.0.60 Crores and completed by March of 2003.


    5.LOWER SAGILERU PROJECT (L.S.R.):      The Lower Sagileru Project was constructed across the Sagileru River which is tributary to the Pennar river. The Project is located near the Vaddemanu village, B.Kodur Mandal, Cuddapah District to irrigate a total ayacut of 11804 acres.

The Project utilized 0.60 TMC of the available water and the Reservoir storage capacity is 0.169 TMC (gross) and 0.166 TMC (Net).

The cost of the Project is Rs.0.51 Crores (SSR of 1954 year).

During the year 10/1996 there were damages to the Dam, Canal, Distributaries and Gates due to heavy unprecedented floods and the rectification works have been taken up at an estimated cost of Rs.6.95 crores and completed by March of 2003.


    6. UPPER SAGILERU PROJECT (U.S.P.):     The Upper Sagileru Project was constructed across the Sagileru River which is tributary to the Pennar river. The Projects located near the Thamballapalli village of Kalasapadu Mandal, Cuddapah District to irrigate a total ayacut of 5448 acres.

The cost of the Project is Rs.0.046 crores (Rates of 1896 year).

During the year 10/1996 there were damages to the Anicut, canal, Distributaries due to heavy unprecedented floods and the rectification works have been taken up at an estimated cost of Rs.2.32 crores and completed by March of 2001.


    C.Minor Irrigation Projects:

     5 No. of Schemes are taken up at a cost of Rs. 980.32 Lakhs and an amount of Rs.304.06 Lakhs is spent as on 12/03 and is programmed to complete 3 No.of schemes by 3/04 to create an I.P. of 3604 acres.

    III. CONTEMPLATED PROJECTS:

    A. Major Projects:

    1. SRISAILAM RIGHT BRANCH CANAL SCHEME:

    The SRBC is cleared by the Planning Commission in 1981; vide reference No.2/205/81-INCAD, dt. 16-5-81 for Rs.179 Crores. The same ass revised at 93-94 SSR has worked out to Rs.1186 Crores. The revised cost was approved by CWC vide their letter No.16/27/94-PA(N), dt. 4-7-1994. The latest estimated cost of the scheme is Rs.1979 Crores. Out of this it is estimated to cost of Rs.312.50 Crores beyond Km.141.00 which comes in Kadapa District.

Agreement was concluded with World Bank for A.P.-III Project on 3-6-97 for an assistance of 325 M of U.S.$. (Rs.1286 Crores) against the total estimate cost of 477 M of U.S.$. (Rs.1890 Crores). In this, the component of S.R.B.C. is Rs.939 Crores to create an ayacut of 1,60,000 Acres. The cost revised in 4/2003 is Rs.941 Crores. Original closing date of AP-III Project is 31-01-03. The same is now extended up to 31-7-2004.

Main canal work is completed up to Km.141 (covered under World Bank Assistance) except 3 Km of Owk Balancing Reservoir from Km.116 to Km.119, which is in progress. The work beyond 141 Km is not yet taken up which is in Kadapa District. All the works up to Km.141 (covering an ayacut of 1,60,000 A/c) being executed under World Bank Assistance will be completed by 31-7-2004. The work beyond Km.141 in Kadapa District is under investigation.


    B. MEDIUM IRRIGATION PROJECTS:

    JERRIKONA PROJECT:     This Project is contemplated across the Bahuda River and is planned to utilize 0.734 TMC of the available water. The detailed investigation work of this scheme is to be taken up by Irrigation Circle, Cuddapah in receipt of Hydrological clearance from Chief Engineer, Investigation, Hyderabad.

    20 No. of Schemes are contemplated for benefiting an ayacut of 5978.60 Acres.

     1. APERP(MR):      Under minimum rehabilitation 182 No. of works at an estimated cost of Rs.905.91 Lakhs is taken up to stabilize 46359 Acres of ayacut and also to develop 11312 acres of Gap ayacut and an amount of Rs.772.596 Lakhs is spent as on 1/2004. It is programmed to complete the balance 3 works by 3/2004

BREACH CLOSING WORKS:      Out of 75 No. of breaches occurred to the Irrigation sources, 70 No. of breaches are closed at an estimated cost of 601.93 Lakhs and the balance 5 works 1 work is programmed to be completed by 3/2004 and the balance 4 works are programmed to be completed by 6/2004.

     3. SCP:     132 No of schemes, costing Rs.555.08 Lakhs are proposed to be taken up under SCP to benefit an ayacut of 2220 acres.
