    B. Medium Irrigation Projects:

    1. Denkada anicut :

    The Denkada Aniuct was constructed across Champavathi River . The Project is located near Saripalli village, Nellimarla Mandal, Vizianagaram District to irrigate a total ayacut of 5,153 acres in the District. The project was constructed during 1965-68.


    The Project utilizes 0.640 TMC of the available water

    The Cost of the project is Rs. 0.390 Crores (SSR of 1967-68)

    A total amount of Rs. Crores has been spent towards rehabilitation and the Ayacut of 5153 Acres has been stabilised in Denkada & Bhogapuram Mandals of Vizianagaram District.
    An amount of Rs. 50,000 was provided in the Budget Estimate for 2003-04 towards maintenance (under Non Plan Head).

    2. Thatipudi Reservoir:

    Thatipudi Reservoir Project was constructed across Gosthani River. The Project is located near Thatipudi village, Gantyada Mandal, Vizianagaram District to irrigate a total ayacut of 15,378 acres in Vizianagaram District and to provide drinking water to Visakhaptnam City. The project was constructed during 1963-68.

    The Project utilizes 3.325 TMC of the available water and the reservoir storage capacity is 3.175 TMC (Gross) and 3.025 TMC (Net). The Cost of the project is Rs. 1.820 Crores (SSR of 1963-64) and the updated cost including improvements and modernization is Rs. 2.36 Crores (SSR 1971-72)

    A total amount of Rs. Crores has been spent towards rehabilitation and the Ayacut of 15,378 Acres has been stabilised in Gantyada, S. Kota & Jami Mandals of Vizianagaram District.

    An amount of Rs. 3.10 Lakhs is provided for the year 2003 -04 to towards Rehabilitation under APERP (vide G.O. Ms. No. 83 Dt. 12-6-2003)

     3. Andra Reservoir Project:

    Andra Reservoir Project was constructed across Champavathi River. The Project is located near Andra village, Mentada Manual, Vizianagaram District to irrigate a total ayacut of 9,426 Acres in Vizianagaram District. The project was constructed during 1983-2000.

    The Project utilizes 0.980 TMC of the available water and the Reservoir Storage Capacity is 0.98 TMC (Gross) and 0.932 TMC (net) The cost of the project is Rs. 13.53 Crores (SSR 1999-2000) and the updated cost including improvements & modernization is Rs. 52.146 Crores.

    A total amount of Rs. Crores has been spent towards rehabilitation and the Ayacut of 9426 Acres has been stabilised in Bondapalli, Gajapathinagaram & Mentada Mandals of Vizianagaram District.

     An amount of Rs. 50.00 Lakhs is provided for the year 2003 -04 to towards extension of canals (Andra High Level Canal)

     4. Vegavathi Anicut:

    Vegavathi Anicut was constructed across Vegavathi which a tributary to Suvarnamukhi which in turn is a tributary to Nagavali River. The project is located near Karrivalsa village, Pachipenta Manual, Vizianagaram District to irrigate a total ayacut of 4200 acres in Vizianagaram District. But, the ayacut being irrigated under the project is 2664 acres only. The project was constructed during 1954-58.

    The project utilizes 0.653 TMC of the available water

    The cost of the project is Rs. 23.32 Lakhs

    A total amount of Rs. Crores has been spent towards rehabilitation and the Ayacut of 2664 Acres has been stabilised in Pachipenta and Salur Mandals of Vizianagaram District.
    An amount of Rs. 0.50 Lakhs is provided for the year 2003 -04 to towards maintenance (Non-Plan) and an amount of Rs. 12.00 Lakhs towards Minimum Rehabilitation (vide G.O. Ms. No. 83 Dt. 12-6-2003)

     5. Seethanagaram Anicut:

    Seethanagaram Anicut was constructed across Suvarnamukhi which is tributary to Nagavali river. The project is located near Venkata Bhyripuram village, Seethanagaram Manual, Vizianagaram District to irrigate a total ayacut of 3753 acres in Vizianagaram District. The project was constructed during 1955-1960.

     The project utilizes 0.638 TMC of the available water

    The cost of the Project is Rs. 2.36 Lakhs

    A total amount of Rs. Crores has been spent towards rehabilitation and the Ayacut of 3753 Acres has been stabilised in Seethanagaram Mandal of Vizianagaram District.

    An amount of Rs. 0.50 Lakhs is provided for the year 2003 -04 to towards maintenance (Non-Plan) and an amount of Rs. 1.00 Lakhs towards Minimum Rehabilitation (vide G.O. Ms. No. 83 Dt. 12-6-2003)

     6. Pedankalam Anicut:

     Pedankalam Anicut was constructed across Suvarnamukhi which is tributary to Nagavali River. The project is located near Pedankalam village, Seethanagaram Manual, Vizianagaram District to irrigate a total ayacut of 8257 acres in the Districts of (i) Vizianagaram (Balijipeta Manual) - 6617 Acres & (ii) Srikakulam (Vangara Manual) – 1640 Acres. The project was constructed during 1975-79.

     The project utilizes 1.073 TMC of the available water

     The cost of the Project is Rs. 240 Lakhs.

    A total amount of Rs. Crores has been spent towards rehabilitation and the Ayacut of 8257 Acres has been stabilised in Balijipeta Manual of Vizianagaram District and Vangara Manual of Srikakulam District.

    An amount of Rs. 0.50 Lakhs is provided for the year 2003 -04 to towards maintenance (Non-Plan) and an amount of Rs. 1.50 Lakhs towards Minimum Rehabilitation (vide G.O. Ms. No. 83 Dt. 12-6-2003).

     7. Vottigedda Reservoir Project:

     Vottigedda Reservoir project was constructed across Vottigedda which is tributary to Nagavali River. The project is located near Rawada village, Jiyyammavalsa Manual, Vizianagaram District to irrigate a total ayacut of 17,364 acres in Vizianagaram District. The project was constructed during 1966-73.

    The project utilizes 2.587 TMC of the available water and the Reservoir Storage Capacity is 0.958 TMC (Gross) and 0.888 TMC (Net).

    The cost of the project is Rs. 136.00 Lakhs.

    A total amount of Rs. Crores has been spent towards rehabilitation and the Ayacut of 17,364 Acres has been stabilised in Jiyyammavalsa and Garugubilli Mandals of Vizianagaram District.

     An amount of Rs. 1.50 Lakhs is provided for the year 2003 -04 to towards maintenance (Non-Plan) and an amount of Rs. 2.00 Lakhs towards Minimum Rehabilitation (vide G.O. Ms. No. 83 Dt. 12-6-2003).

     8. Thotapalli Regulator:

    Thotapalli Regulator was constructed across Nagavali River. The project is located near Thotapalli village, Garugubilli Manual of Vizianagaram District to irrigate a total ayacut of 41,708 acres in the Districts of (i) Vizianagaram – 11221 acres (ii) Srikakulam – 30,487 acres. The project was constructed during 1905- 1908.

    The project utilizes 4.696 TMC of the available water. The cost of the project is Rs. 20.74 Lakhs

    A total amount of Rs. Crores has been spent towards rehabilitation and the Ayacut of 41,708 Acres has been stabilised in Jiyyammavalsa, Garugubilli & Balijipeata Mandals of Vizianagaram District and Veeraghattam, Palakonda, Burja & Vangara Mandals of Srikakulam District.

     An amount of Rs. 2.50 Lakhs is provided for the year 2003 -04 to towards maintenance (Non-Plan) and an amount of Rs. 10.00 Lakhs under Plan Head and Rs. 96.59 Lakhs towards Minimum Rehabilitation (vide G.O. Ms. No. 83 Dt. 12-6-2003).

     9. Vengala Raya Sagaram Project:

     Vengala Raya Sagaram Proejct was constructed across Suvarnamukhi, a tributary of Nagavali River. The project is located near Laxmipuram village, Salur Manual of Vizianagaram District to irrigate a total ayacut of 24,700 acres in Vizianagaram District. The project was constructed during 1976-2000.

     The project utilizes 4 TMC of the available water and the Reservoir Storage Capacity is 1.683 TMC (Gross) and 1.495 TMC (Net).

    The cost of the project when originally contemplated is Rs. 865 Lakhs (with SSR 1976-77) and the updated cost of the project is Rs. 5880 Lakhs. (SSR 2000-2001)

    An amount of Rs. 2.50 Lakhs is provided for the year 2003 -04 to towards maintenance (Non-Plan) and an amount of Rs. 5.00 Lakhs under Plan head.

     C. Minor Irrigation Projects:

     There are 1173nos of completed projects ,creating an ayacut of about 1.34 lakh acres .further,5 Schemes are completed benefiting an ayacut of 2330 acres.

    II. ONGOING PROJECTS:

    A.Major Projects:

    1.Janjhavathi Reservoir Project:

    is under construction across Janjhavathi River, which is a tributary to Nagavali River. The Project utilizes 4 TMC of the available water and the reservoir storage capacity is 3.401 TMC (Gross) and 2.774 TMC (Net).

    The Project is located near Rajyalaxmipuram village, Komarada Mandal, Vizianagaram District and is envisaged to irrigate / stabilize a total ayacut of 24,640 acres in Vizianagaram Districts.

    The estimated cost of the project is Rupees 15.51 Crores (SSR of 1976-77) and the revised cost is Rs. 121 Crores (SSR of 2001-02 year).

    As on 1 / 04 a total amount of Rs. 31.376 Crores has been spent since inception. The Project is programmed to be completed by 2007 year.

    The total land to be acquired is 2086 acres and so far 1216 acres is already acquired.

     An amount of Rs. 5.00 Crores is provided for the year 2003 –04 and an amount of Rs. 3.45 Crores is spent as on 31.01.2004.

    B. Medium Irrigation Projects

    3 Schemes are under execution to benefit an ayacut of 2215 acres in the following Mandals.

    NABARD ASSISTANCE

     Under NABARD assistance 3 Schemes (RIDF Phase IV - 2 Schemes , RIDF Phase VI - 1 Scheme ) are taken up at a cost of Rs. 800 Lakhs and an amount of Rs. 452.995 Lakhs is spent as on 12/03 and are programmed to complete 2 Schemes by 3/04 to create an IP of 1692 Acres.

    STATE PLAN

     1 Scheme costing Rs. 10 Lakhs is taken up to benefit an ayacut of 153 Acres.

    III. CONTEMPLATED PROJECTS:

    1.Thotapalli Barrage Project:

    Thotapalli Barrage is a major Irrigation Project across Nagavali river proposed at 500M upstream of the existing Regulator near Thotapalli (v) in Vizianagaram District to stabilise 64,000 Acres and also to provide irrigation facilities to new ayacut of 1,20,000 Acres (I.D) by excavating a new right main canal of 107 KM length, covering 287 villages pertaining to 10 Mandals in Srikakulam District and 12 Mandals in Vizianagaram District.

    Administrative approval is accorded for Rs.450.23 Crores vide G.O.Ms.No.114 Dt.31.7.03. It is proposed to incur expenditure initially under plan grant as there is a budget provision of Rs.3.0 Crores. An amount of Rs.1.50 Crores already deposited with Revenue Department towards Land Acquisition process. Proposals for additional funds of Rs.700 Lakhs in the current year were submitted to Government.

    The survey work for Land Acquisition for head works including foreshore submersion totalling to 4625 Ac (excluding Government Poramboke) is in progress. As per the instruction of Hon’ble Minister for Major & Medium Irrigation during his visit in 9/2003, the District Collector, Vizianagaram has deployed Revenue Staff exclusively for Land Acquisition Process. Proposals for setting up of separate Land Acquisition Unit were already furnished to the Government and orders are awaited, as the total land required including R&R is of the order of nearly 10,000 Acres.

     It is programmed to ground the Head Works during the current year as the design & drawing for Barrage are finalised. In the foundation ceremony held on 6.11.2003 Hon’ble Chief Minister has announced that the project will be completed with in 5 years period.

    2.Peddagadda Reservoir:

    Peddagedda Reservoir is a medium Irrigation project proposed near Kesali (V) in Pachipenta Mandal of Vizianagaram District to stabilise 4,500 Acres under the existing Karrivalasa Anicut and create new I.P (ID) of 7,500 Acres in 33 Villages of Pachipenta, Salur and Ramabhadrapuram Mandals.

     An extent of 902 Acres of land (Including 95 acres of Forest land) has to be acquired out of which survey for an extent of 65.0 Acres pertaining to Head Works is completed. An amount of Rs.135 Lakhs has already been deposited with Special Deputy Collector, Bobbili for Land Acquisition.

    Provision of Rs.100.00 Lakhs is made in 2003-04 the budget under NABARD (RIDF). It is proposed to meet the expenditure under plan grant until NABARD approval is received. Proposals for additional grant of Rs.450 Lakh were submitted to Government.

     Tenders were invited for construction of spill way regulator as well as formation of Earth Dam to the extent of approval by Chief Engineer, Central Design Organisation are under finalisation. It is programmed to enter into agreement during March,2004 and commence the work immediately.

    The HPs of the RMC from Km 0/0 to Km 8.20 were already approved and the estimates are under preparation.

    It is programmed to spend Rs.4.50 Crores during the current Financial year.

    The Hon’ble Chief Minister has laid foundation stone on 6-11-2003 for the project.

    3.Taraka Rama Thirtha Sagaram Reservoir Scheme:

    This Project is proposed on the river Champavathi with a barrage at Kotagandredu(V) and a balancing reservoir at Kumili (V) with a flood flow canal.

    The ayacut proposed under this project is 24,710 Acres, out of which 8,172 Ac is existing ayacut and 16538 Acres is new ayacut.

     Due to this scheme 49 villages pertaining to Pusapatirega, Denkada and Bhogapuram Mandals of Vizianagaram District will be benefited.

    An amount of Rs 200 lakhs is proposed under state plan in the budget 2003-04 and works are proposed to be grounded during this year.

    To reduce the extent of Foreshore submersion and also the cost of the Project, revised Hydrology has been finalised. Accordingly the cost of the project has been recasted and DPR is under submission to Government to Government for approval.

     Tentative Administrative approval of the project was accorded by the Government of Andhra Pradesh for Rs.220.11 Crores Vide G.O.Ms.No.159, I&CAD Department, Dt.16.10.2003

    B. Minor irrigation Projects:

    6 Schemes are contemplated for benefiting an ayacut of 3706 acres.

    Almost all the schemes are not working at present, as the beneficiaries have to pay C.C. charges, which were due , and the power supply has been cut-off.
